Overview
What it is
Tesamorelin is a 44-amino-acid analog of growth hormone–releasing hormone. It stimulates pituitary growth-hormone release and increases IGF-1 signaling rather than supplying growth hormone directly.
Its established indication is the reduction of excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It is not indicated for general weight loss.
Evidence
Research snapshot
Randomized human trials in adults with HIV-associated abdominal fat accumulation reported reductions in visceral adipose tissue, including approximately 18% among participants continuing treatment for 12 months.
Research also reported changes in waist circumference and trunk fat. These findings should not be generalized to other populations or uses.
Online reports often describe gradual midsection or recovery changes, but personal accounts cannot establish effectiveness and may not reflect visceral-fat measurements.
